Project Oscar Kilo

Oscar Kilo

Meet the client

Oscar Kilo is the home of the national police wellbeing services and brings assessment learning and conversation about emergency services wellbeing into one place. Providing support and guidance so all police forces can improve wellbeing within their organisations, their services have been developed for police by police and are designed to meet the unique needs of officers and staff.

The brief

Whilst working to improve wellbeing across the force, Oscar Kilo knew they needed to continue helping educate officers and staff. They needed officers and staff to know that even when Oscar Kilo couldn’t be there in person they were always looking to support their force to offer the best possible wellbeing Provision. Looking for a solution Oscar Kilo reached out to Tiny Wizard Studio to create a series of animated videos to explain their role and services.

Discovery

Working out how to approach this project was our first task, we worked closely with Oscar Kilo to discover the key messaging, deep dive into the target audience and of course explore how they’ll be sharing these messages.

Scripting

Drafting the initial scripts for the psychological screening explainer and the Emergency Services Trauma Intervention Programme was a challenge as we wanted to evoke emotion while not taking the story in a direction that was too dark or distressing. With a thorough discovery process, the scripting is always smooth and the team at Oscar Kilo approved the approach, allowing us to move on to concept art stage.

Concept art

Animation has its benefits in these themes and situations as we didn’t need to rely on real-world officers or staff or distressing situations. We had the freedom to explore various character styles and worked closely with the team to portray the correct environments.

Storyboarding

Storyboarding is the first time the client really gets a chance to visualise how the animation will look and flow from beginning to end. It gives everyone a chance to make any last changes to the language, scenery, colours, and characters before we enter the production stage. Because our process is rock solid, any changes or concerns have been worked out by now and storyboarding is a smooth process.

Production

Our animation Wizards set about building the characters and drawing the environments. We are incredibly proud to have such talented artists working here at Tiny Wizard Studio. They get very passionate and invested in projects and knew that something that has this much emotion attached to it should have a personal touch with hand-drawn characters and traditional methods. We were extremely excited to finally get to show Oscar Kilo the beautiful animation we had poured our hearts and souls into. And they were over the moon.
