The brief

Renold reached out to the wizards to develop a brand storytelling animation to celebrate their 75th Anniversary celebrations. The video was to be shared with partners and employees at the celebration event and then be used as a promotional marketing tool to spread their story, build trust and gain exposure.

Discovery

With such passionate employees in an organisation with such a rich history, the discovery process was really in-depth. The marketing team were keen for employees to have input on the project and it was eye-opening to see the records, photograph collections, newspaper cuttings and decades-old advertising that had all been collected and stored so carefully. Collaboratively it was decided that we needed to find a way of incorporating some of these artefacts into the production.

Scripting

With a well documented history, we had a great deal of information to work with to pull a clear timeline together of the business and how it had evolved since 1879. However, this wasn’t just to be a timeline, it needed to have some emotional weight and incorporate the ethos and values of Renold.

Concept art

With a production so close to many hearts at Renold, it was important to explore how we could incorporate some of the historical photographs and adverts that were presented at discovery phase. We presented some concept art to the marketing team to explain how this could be done in a sympathetic way, while the animation still remained engaging and beautiful to look at.

Storyboarding

Once everyone was onboard with the art direction, it was time to produce storyboards to flesh out the visuals and demonstrate how the scenes would develop and where the narration would sit. With the artwork remaining static at this stage, a lot of care was taken to add visual notes and present the ideas to the team so that we could make any final changes to concept and script before production.

Production

With such a collaborative process, production was underway soon after. Our animation wizards set to work bringing the story to life through motion design and sound. The whole team at Renold were thrilled with the results and so were we.
